Fairleas Montana Pic Leads 4th of July Parade
Thought you'd enjoy an update on Fairleas
Montana Pic. Our latest adventure-leading
the Montecito Village 4th of July parade.
Mickey is 19 years old now, and has never
been in a parade - at least not during the
years that we've owned him. But he never
spooked at anything, despite not having been
ridden for 2 weeks and being exposed to the
noise of antique fire engines blaring their
sirens, a Dixieland Jazz band, a barbershop
quartet, and of course all the spectator
hubbub. We were even featured on the local
evening news a few hours later!
After the parade we went to the community BBQ, where Mickey endured 2 hours of constant petting by children who were thrilled to be able to touch a horse. He never moved a muscle and calmly grazed the whole time, despite kids coming at him from every angle.
Mickey is essentially retired, and spends his days grazing in his pasture with another gelding with whom he seems to have a love/hate relationship (i.e., Mickey is not at the top of the pecking order). He is primarily ridden by my 89-year-old father, who goes out with me about once a week on 2-hour trail rides in our local mountains.

I have not done much with him lately because I was busy having children....he sat out in my pasture for 9 months and when I got him out he went around the arena like he never missed a day...just a little fatter. We are thrilled that both have tested negative for EHV-1. We would like to reassure our friends and boarders that Fairlea Ranch is taking all practical measures to keep all horses safe.
Purely as a precautionary measure, as advised by veterinary experts, both ranches are closed to outside horses and events at this time. Please take reasonable precautions with your own horses. Our thoughts are with all equestrians during this difficult time.

She has filled out nicely and stands about 14.1 HH and is chestnut in color. I have never been on a horse that is as soft in the bridle and poll.
