Fairlea Ranch, a symbol strength, ability and excellence.
Fairlea Ranch – The Story
Fairlea Ranch was established in October 1984 in Badger, California by Kate and John Hyde.
As a child, John had spent every possible waking hour at his grandfather’s farm in Michigan – Fair Lea Stock Farm. “Mr. Mac” who ran the farm for John’s grandfather did not believe in ‘mechanical’ farm equipment and hence everything was done with draft horses. John learned to ride on the backs of draft horses as they plowed the fields. It was a magical place. In 1984 when the opportunity came along to buy the old Young Buck Ranch in Badger, it was the fulfillment of a life-long dream.
In 2008 Kate & John Hyde heard about another ranch that was about to be offered for sale. Because it was on the floor of the San Joaquin Valley, just down the mountain from Fairlea Ranch Badger, and was a premier boarding/event facility it was another opportunity they just couldn’t resist. The combination of the Badger facility, for raising quality performance horses in a natural setting, with a conveniently located show and boarding facility, created a unique equine complex.
The original Fairlea Ranch in Badger is located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills, and is where the horse sale operation is based. The Fairlea brand is a symbol of strength, ability and excellence.
Fairlea Ranch Quarter Horses are bred to perform in all major performance disciplines – cutting, cow horse, reining, roping and barrels. All Fairlea Ranch horses are registered American Quarter Horses, primarily sired by their two studs: Silver Gun (Playgun x Miss Freckles Reed) and Smart Steady Date (Smart Little Lena x Doc’s Steady Date).
Many of their broodmare’s pedigrees go back to Fairlea Ranch’s first stud: Colonel Pic (Colonel Freckles x Picinic). These proven bloodlines produced the trademark Fairlea Ranch performers – well rounded, athletic, good minded, do everything champions.
Fairela Ranch lifetime earnings $380,892.39 (as of 8/2023)
